The Accident

The Accident is intended to evoke the feeling of empathy that arises when, in the street, a public space belonging simultaneously to everyone and to no one, a meal is found crushed on the sidewalk. The anecdote of the passer-by is the personal tragedy of the stranger who has dropped their food.

This series deals with the immediate feeling of empathy and derision we can feel at the sight of this vestige. We don't know anything about this person or whether he shares the same values as us, and yet we feel compassion for him. In a way, passers-by can feel solidarity with a person, if only through the traces that person has left behind.

The creation of this series involved various techniques. The process began in 2022 at Atelier Silex in Trois-Rivières, where the steel frames were welded. This initial stage focused on ensuring the frames' structural integrity and quality.

In 2023, the project moved to Atelier La Coulée for the aluminum casting. This phase started with designing and creating molds for the aluminum pieces. After the molds were prepared, the aluminum was melted and poured into them. Once cooled and solidified, the cast pieces were removed and refined through sanding and polishing. The final step involved assembling the aluminum components with the welded steel frames, completing the series. This two-year project highlights the collaboration and effort across different ateliers.
