Temps propre

This collection features 3D-modeled paper prints of soap bubble bouquets, capturing the delicate interplay between fragility and time. The prints are produced using inkjet technology on Canson paper with a satin finish, and are available in both anodized aluminum and custom wood frames. Each piece in the series portrays iris branches seemingly suspended in mid-air, floating against various shades of the sky—midday blue, dawn pink, or dusk gray.

The floating bouquets are rendered with a spectral allure, thanks to the textured appearance of the bubbles. This texture symbolizes the ephemeral and fragile nature of time, echoing the transient beauty of these delicate forms. The irises, chosen for their upward growth and symbolic representation of wisdom and power, add a layer of depth to the composition. Their swirling, progressive flowers reflect the slow, patient process required in nurturing plants—a metaphor for the deliberate pace needed to honour the natural rhythm of life.

In a world increasingly driven by speed and productivity, this work serves as a meditation on the need for a gentler approach to time. The anxieties surrounding time—whether it feels as though it's slipping away or overwhelming us—are mirrored in the ephemeral nature of the soap bubbles. The series invites reflection on how we often overlook the need for self-care, which is frequently misunderstood as consumerism, rather than a genuine, nurturing practice.

The concept of self-care, as articulated in recent years, emphasizes slowing down and reconnecting with natural rhythms. This sentiment is echoed in Robin D.G. Kelley’s notion of dreaming as described in Freedom Dreams: “a collective imagination engaged in a real movement of liberation. It is fundamentally a product of struggle, victories and losses, crises and openings, and the endless conversations that circulate in a shared environment.” Through these prints, the work proposes a return to natural time and a reconnection with the cycles of daylight and personal experience. It encourages viewers to embrace a tender rhythm, renouncing the relentless pace of modern life in favour of a more contemplative and organic engagement with time.

The paradox of artificial 3D model depictions of nature lies in their ability to both capture and distort the essence of the natural world. While these digital renderings can meticulously replicate natural forms and textures, they inevitably simplify and abstract the complexities of organic life. This juxtaposition highlights the tension between the precision of technology and the inherent unpredictability of nature. The resulting models offer an interpretation rather than a true replication, inviting contemplation on the limits of digital representation and the ways in which technology can both illuminate and obscure our understanding of the natural world.
